A man whose life and work offer hope that, when the next window of opportunity opens, Belarusian society will once again rise in the struggle for democracy.

In 2020, the people of Belarus took to the streets, leaving many wondering: where had this movement come from? Just when hope seemed lost, decades of work by human rights defenders and democracy activists finally bore fruit. The determination, resilience, and unwavering commitment of Ales Bialiatski – founder of one of Belarus’s leading human rights organisations and a lifelong opponent of the country’s authoritarian regime – inspired thousands to keep fighting.

Yet this is not a film about political events or the regime’s many crimes. It is an intimate portrait of the renowned dissident, human rights defender, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, told through the voices of those who shared his life and work, revealing how a lifelong commitment to human rights endures across time.
