Menopause Mystery

Insomnia, depression, brain fog: more than a billion people suffer from a mysterious cluster of symptoms. The filmmaker is determined to uncover the great mystery.

Louise is in her fifties and a busy filmmaker. Life is good, the children have flown the nest and she and her husband are enjoying their new-found freedom, when suddenly something starts shifting. She cannot sleep, starts forgetting things and has trouble finding the right words in conversations, her mood changes, she feels depressed and anxious – and she has no idea why. It’s only when she starts googling her symptoms that she realizes she’s not alone. Women all over the world are suffering from the same diffuse symptoms and no one really understands why or where to go for help.

„For a long time, menopause was a topic that received far too little attention, both in medical research and in public discourse. As a result, many women still lack reliable information, and this stage of life is often accompanied by feelings of isolation and misunderstanding. We hope this film will not only foster a better understanding of menopause and the changes it brings, but also encourage more open conversations and help those going through similar experiences feel less alone.“ – Judita Ragauskaitė, curator of the Impact Competition programme.
