Time and Water

Oscar-nominated Sara Dosa turns her poetic gaze towards Iceland’s glaciers. How can we preserve the Earth’s memory as it melts away along with them?

Sara Dosa’s new film, which compliments her acclaimed masterpiece Fire of Love with its sensuality, poeticism, and striking imagery, continues the contemplation of the monumental forces of nature and the flow of human life. Faced with the melting of his country’s glaciers and the loss of his beloved grandparents, Icelandic writer Andri Snær Magnason transforms his archives into a time capsule in which he preserves that which is gradually disappearing – family, memories, time, and water.

„Sara Dosa masterfully shows the fundamental connection between human beings and the natural world. After all, the matter we share with everything around us also holds a shared memory: dreams and aspirations, moments of joy and sorrow. When a glacier melts, a part of this shared history – a part of ourselves – is lost. This is a delicate invitation to say goodbye properly.“ – Rugilė Pranculytė, curator of the Green Competition programme.
