We Have to Survive

As extreme weather becomes more and more common, adapting is easier than admitting mistakes. Whether the Earth is sinking or burning, people will do anything to avoid moving away.

A journey to four different corners of the Earth, where the real consequences of climate change have long ceased to be a distant, looming echo – from underground homes in Australia to the melting glaciers of Greenland, from the sinking US coastlines to the wind-swept deserts of Mongolia. When the only way to survive is to adapt to extreme weather conditions, the lives of locals begin to unfold amidst constant uncertainty. Yet even in such radical shifts, some things remain the same.

The screening on 16 October at Skalvija Cinema will be introduced by Živilė Mantrimaitė, a researcher in energy transition and climate justice, with a focus on changes in the energy system and how they affect our everyday lives. The introduction will be in Lithuanian.

„Traditional documentaries on climate change usually end with a cliché that emphasizes human resilience – “we’ll survive, we just need to work together.” The protagonists of this film don’t need to work together at all – they plan to survive no matter what.
