Going back to a picturesque mountain valley in Georgia, Deni is greeted by his relatives at a table laden with food and expectations. A ripe debut, awarded at Cannes.
After living in Belgium for many years, the director Deni Oumar Pitaev visits the picturesque mountain valley in Georgia, where the Chechen diaspora is settled. He is greeted by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and parents. They talk warmly, laugh together, share everything and nothing. But do they have anything in common? Deni walks a bit awkwardly, can’t do a pull up or shoot a gun, doesn’t have a wife or children. He talks about his feelings, wants to build a house floating above the ground and dares to ask his father about the lack of love he experienced growing up.
„An impressively mature and smart debut film by Déni Oumar Pitsaev, where every moment is ripe with lightness and humour, history, memory, trauma, and expectations for each other and oneself – just like in life. The subtly surrealistic cinematography reveals reality through new eyes, strips away all masks and highlights illusions. For this truly authentic perspective, the film became a double winner at last year’s Cannes.“ – Eva Sinicaitė, curator of the Emerging Filmmakers Competition programme.
Tickets for the screening on 18 October at the Pranas Domšaitis Gallery in Klaipėda will be available for purchase at the gallery’s box office on the day of the screening only. Tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis.
PLEASE NOTE: pay-what-you-can tickets will not be available at Romuva cinema.
