Can a trip to the war’s front-line area change the minds of three conspiracy theory–obsessed Putin supporters about the war in Ukraine?
The announcement “Do you believe that the war in Ukraine is a hoax? Become the hero of a new film” brings in Nikola, Ivo and Petra – three characters who admire Vladimir Putin, seriously doubt the magnitude of the war in Ukraine and self-identify as conspiracy theorists. Accepting the unique opportunity offered by the film’s director – to travel to Ukraine and witness the war with their own eyes – they travel to Kharkiv, located 30 km from the Russian border, the former front line, and the graves of fallen Ukrainians. The protagonists of the film face the reality of the war, which contradicts their beliefs. The director explores the deep impact of propaganda, when personal truth becomes more important than other people’s lives.
The screening on 23 October at Skalvija Cinema will be introduced by Jurgita Čeponytė, a journalist with the LRT Investigation Department.
„This film is a real treat for those who enjoy the most inconvenient films at Inconvenient Films. For many, it will probably be a journey beyond the boundaries of their social bubble. If that’s you, there will be more than one moment when you’ll want to cover your eyes, sink into your seat, or simply throw something at the screen.
Still, I recommend stepping outside your comfort zone and putting your own reality to the test. Because sometimes even what seems undeniably real – something you can see, touch, hear or smell – might be just another conspiracy theory to someone else.“ – Judita Ragauskaitė, curator of the Impact Competition programme.
PLEASE NOTE: pay-what-you-can tickets will not be available at Romuva cinema.
