The Family Approach

Somewhere in Brandenburg, five children sit at the dinner table. Instead of saying “mom” and “dad,” they say “Ms. Wagner” and “Mr. Gericke.” In this temporary, family-like routine, caught between parental care and the bureaucracy of child protection services, social workers do everything they can to create a sense of home for the children. Antje, Max, and Sören take them to school, cook meals, advocate for their needs, and play cards with them. They know how to listen and understand. This is a film about a special kind of superpower –- raising children – and about families in all their different forms.
