Kenya is experiencing a terrible drought. Due to the lack of rain, a critical conflict has arisen in the Laikipia Reserve between the indigenous Samburu tribe of herders who have been grazing their livestock here for centuries, and the white landowners who have stayed in Kenya after the independence. Do the locals, who do not recognize fictitious boundaries, have a right to the privatized water bodies of Laikipia? Do the white ranchers, whose land was once acquired under oppressive conditions, have the right to fence themselves off and keep the herders out? The fight for resources is intensifying as political elections approach. A moving story about the complicated legacy of British colonialism and yet another consequence of climate change.
