A month after the fall of dictator Omar al-Bashir, Tunisian film director Hind Meddeb arrives in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. With civil resistance finally overthrowing 30 years of dictatorship, democracy suddenly seems within reach – streets are filled with the euphoria of young Sudanese, their desire for freedom, poetry and songs, hopes for new opportunities and a brighter future. However, the past still casts long shadows – as the army continues to oppress citizens, it becomes clear that the struggle is not over yet. Will the youth of Sudan be able to keep their hopes alive, find their way in the new, no less complex reality of a devastated country, and end the world’s largest humanitarian crisis?
