Back in ancient times, the Greek poet Sappho wrote about love between women. She lived on the island of Lesbos, in the town of Eressos. In the 1980s, following in her footsteps, women from all over the world began flocking to Eressos. The town became a meeting place where nationality or race didn’t matter. While the conservative locals were shocked by the open displays of affection, women-run businesses began to thrive – restaurants, hotels, and other spaces created just for them.

Eressos breathed freedom and mutual solidarity. In its golden years and still to this day, it remains a refuge – a safe and welcoming place for those who cannot be themselves elsewhere.
