In the summer of 1989, young socialists from 177 countries gathered in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, for a massive youth festival. Although the sun was shining and the participants were in high spirits, only a few months remained before the collapse of the entire Eastern Bloc. The film Bright Future looks at this incredible archival footage and the young idealists who sincerely dreamed of making the world a better place—with analytical precision, subtle humor, love, and solidarity. A film imbued with the spirit of the Romanian New Wave.
