Viktor + DISCUSSION on documentation as a form of civil defense

In a remote area near Kharkiv, Viktor swings a sword, inspired by samurai films he watches with his mother on an old television. When the Russian invasion begins, he rushes to join the army, wanting to defend his country and prove his worth in battle. However, due to his deafness, Viktor is not accepted and instead takes on the role of a press photographer. The impressive sound design and black-and-white cinematography reveal the inner world of a man torn between courage and vulnerability. An aesthetic experience imbued with emotional depth, offering insight into how a deaf person experiences war.

The film “Viktor” will be followed by a discussion on documentation and art as forms of civil defense: how photography, video diaries, and creative initiatives can become weapons against oppression and injustice. We will discuss how the ability to record events, create narratives, and disseminate information becomes a tool for resistance, solidarity, and justice when physical struggle is impossible. We will also discuss the broader question: what does it mean to “fight” today, when weapons can be not only guns, but also cameras, images, or words, and how creativity helps to preserve humanity in wartime.

The screening and event will take place on October 19th at 4 p.m. at the Muzeoteka | TICKETS
