Little Uli wants to grow a beard, become a pirate, a knight or the pope, but in no case does she want to fit into the role stereotypes of her Bavarian hometown. Because of Uli’s ‘boyish’ tendencies, the family is constantly fighting. Many years later, on her father’s deathbed, Uli learns his deepest secret – neither did he fit into the traditional male stereotypes. Why, despite being so similar, did father and daughter spend their whole lives as strangers? This film is a tragicomical rollercoaster about family secrets and gender roles. At the same time, it is Uli’s attempt to understand her father’s true personality through photographs, objects and diaries.
