NK-INTERACTIVE

Extended reality exhibition NK-INTERACTIVE presents not only virtual reality films, but also new technology forms such as games, video installations and interactive experiences. The newest media innovations present bold scenarios for the future, leading viewers forwards, together. This year, nine works in various formats will take audiences on journeys into the depths of human consciousness, exploring the boundaries of perception.

Secretly

What’s more common: talking or staying silent? In both the historical and contemporary world, a multitude of social rules and political constraints force people to live in secrecy. Sometimes it’s by hiding a part of themselves, sometimes – even their whole lives. In society, we are used to whispering. Little by little, we learn to speak up. The films in this programme are a good start.

Voyage, voyage

This programme is for those who crave adventure, exciting life stories and unbelievable twists of reality. Afghanistan in the 2000s, communist Hungary, modern-day Bhutan, colourful underground in Brasil, a magical Swedish town, the radical fringes of America... No matter what place or time you find yourself in, these characters will surprise you with either their courage or naivety. These are the stories that will make you feel the true joy of adventure.

In Search of Kindness

The programme invites you to immerse yourself in intimate, delicate stories that unveil the most special human trait – to connect. To discover the world with a loved one, a parent, a grandparent, or those you have lost. To nurture a bond with your land, your country, your history. To bind yourself to the world, to commit to the other, to open up and listen. That people need people is possibly the reason why the world is still standing.

Who, If Not Us?

It’s an old saying that evil wins when good people do nothing to stop it. The heroes of this programme do not want evil to win, therefore they do everything they can to stop it. From neighbouring Belarus to Taiwan and Palestine, the question remains the same: Who, if not us? When, if not now?

Despite Everything

Are you fed up with stupid politicians and their ineffective solutions? Do you often lose hope and faith in the future of humanity? Are you not sure if it is possible to make any difference at all? The heroes of this programme feel the same. But they deal with it in different ways: some lose patience and take action themselves, some just try to survive – one day at a time. Maybe they will inspire you too. Or maybe you will take a breath of relief.

Unwritten Rules

The world we live in is made up of many unwritten rules – behavioural norms, social conventions, blind beliefs... What seems to be an axiom in one place can be considered absurd just a few hundred kilometres away. The films in this programme turn the camera to these unwritten rules that bind as well as divide people and capture the moments when, whether we like it or not, these rules have to be rewritten.

Artificial

The speed of modern technological progress far outstrips our brains’ ability to adapt to it. For every problem that technology solves, a new one will arise, that would not exist without it. Artificial intelligence has become one of the greatest existential problems of our time, but not only philosophical questions should be raised. We should also ask practical questions about how to make technology work for us, rather than imprisoning ourselves in technology.

Profit at any cost

We have been taught that the free market will solve all problems by offering ever more superior and therefore more profitable solutions. But against the backdrop of rapidly rising income inequality and a catastrophic climate situation, such naive faith in business seems unjustified. This programme’s films reveal the macabre grimness of such blind chase for profit. As in that city, whose economy thrives on polluting yet profitable factories, while at the same time its population is dying of cancer.

Are we ready?

War can reach Lithuania, too. The public response to this fact often oscillates between two extremes: disbelief that it would be possible and despair that nothing can be done about it. In an attempt to avoid both over-optimism and falling into dark pessimism, this programme encourages reflection on our place in today’s war, realising that the belief of “they wouldn’t do that” does not, unfortunately, apply to terrorist states. Thus, it might be time to ask ourselves the question: are we ready?

DOCS FOR KIDS

The programme for youth features witty, inspiring, world-changing stories. Sometimes inconvenient, but always real.
