Synopsis

“There are some places in the world which I believe have higher doses of primal energy; ‘the Aether’,” says Ruken Tekes, Kurdish filmmaker and human rights expert for the United Nations. Hasankeyf, a 12,000-year-old town located along the Tigris River in south-eastern Turkey, is precisely this kind of place. Unfortunately, in 2006 the Turkish government began to build a giant hydroelectric dam across the river that will lead to the flooding of much of the city and its archaeological sites. In her debut feature, Ruken Tekes embarks on a meditative cinematic journey into the natural cycle of creation, destruction, and rebirth.
