‘El Padre Medico’ premieres on October 11th at the Inconvenient Films Festival. The glorious story of Lithuania-born Amazonian jungle’s local celebrity Alexander Ferdinand Bendoraitis brings us back to the 1960s and into this strange, obscure and multifaceted land of Amazon. Some compared him to Mother Theresa, the ill would walk a thousand kilometers to be healed by a famous priest “Padre Medico”.
The documentary will open up a whole range of inconvenient topics: from the Lithuanian footprint in the history of colonialism to how national hero myths are built, sustained and subverted. The film also brings up the question of how documentary filmmakers should reflect on historical “heroes”, at the same time remaining honest with themselves and the viewers.
After the première, there will be a Q&A with film creators.
