Creative storytelling and Impact/Outreach: Burma Storybook – a case study

October 4th, from 12 p.m. till 4 p.m.

Address: Contemporary Art Center, Vokiečių str. 2, Vilnius

Masterclass with director Petr Lom and procuder Corinne Van Egeraat will be held on the film “Burma Storybook”.  The class will have three parts.

First part: “Burma Storybook” screening. More about the film here.

Second part: discussion on the creative storytelling challenges of filming in Myanmar during its time of transition from dictatorship. The filmmakers will discuss how they selected poetry and dissident poets as the focus of their film, and how they combined Cinéma-vérité storytelling with poetry. Petr Lom and Corinne Van Egeraat will analyse their theory that Cinéma-vérité is a form or poetry in daily life.

Third part: focus on the outreach and impact campaign that was created around the film: publishing a photography and poetry book with one of the most famous photographers in Europe to accompany the film; distributing a low-budget Burmese language only version of the book in Myanmar, and how free screenings were conducted of the film in Myanmar, reaching 50 000 viewers. And of course, filmmakers will also tell you about fundraising through Kickstarter.

Masterclass language: English

Participation is free of charge.
Registration needed (registration is over).

Event is presented by „Kūrybiškos Europos“ MEDIA .
