Flotel Europe

Denmark, Serbia | 2015 | 70 min. | PG

Synopsis

In 1992 a wave of refugees from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina found shelter on a giant ship “Flotel Europa” in the canals of Copenhagen. Among them was a 12 year old boy, Vladimir Tomic, who fled from Sarajevo. Two decades later, he takes us on a journey of growing up on this ship. He juxtaposed personal VHS archive material shot by refugees who shared the ‘space-time vacuum’ of the Flotel.

Remarkable use of archive! The film is still as accurate, relevant and engaging as it was 20 years back when the images were made. Intimate, intelligent somewhat humorous coming of age story during the harsh circumstances of the refugee life of the film maker himself.
